The World Series of Birding is "a contest in the name of fun, glory and conservation dollars".

Teams of birders from all over the world try to find as many bird species as possible in one day and within the borders of the state of New Jersey. This contest is based stricktly on an honor system and birds can be identified by sight or sound.

The World Series of Birding was founded in 1984 by Pete Dunn and has been an annual event ever since. Many notable birders have participated in this event including non other than Roger Tory Peterson who was a member of the winning team in the inagguaral event. Last year over 100 teams participated and the winning team (Cornell's Sapsuckers) identified 229 species.

The event has raised over $8,000,000 for bird conservation. It has been widely covered by main stream media outlets (20/20, the Daily Show, the New York Times among others) which has help to raise awareness for birding and conservation.

Our team is raising money for the New Jersey Audubon Society. You can do your part by pledging a set dollar amount or pledging based on the number of species we find (we hope to tally 160-175 species). Your donations are tax deductable and will help with conservation in New Jersey a crusical migration stopover for many birds as well as a and breeding area for many others.
