I spent the first four to five hours of the day at Higbee Beach having great looks at many migrating warblers," he tells us. "I decided to visit 'the Meadows' before I headed for home. As I started walking through the trail, I got called from work. A senior vice president was on the phone letting me know that we had problems with some of the computer programming changes we had implemented the day before. As I was trying to figured out what went wrong, a fellow birder motioned to me to lower my voice and pointed to a bird just 30 feet away. I was shocked when I realized it was an American Bittern, a bird that I had only seen once before and never been able to take a picture of. I started taking pictures while I was still on the phone with my VP. I told him that I was on my way to work, but I did stay long enough to take some great shots of this wonderful bird.
